The Libertines

The legendary band hit Brighton Beach this summer

The Libertines are the last of the English rock renegades. Riotous songs "What a Waster" and "Time for Heroes" announced the arrival of the rowdy new band whilst platinum-selling single "Don't Look Back into the Sun" and "What Became of the Likely Lads" chimed with the romantic soul of the nation.

The London-based group was formed by songwriting pair Peter Doherty and Carl Barât in 1997, later recruiting John Hassall (bass) and Gary Powell (drums). They immediately began to court controversy, playing guerilla gigs and openly discussing substance use in their pursuit of a utopia they called Albion.

Despite becoming the darlings of the indie world, the romantic dream would turn sour as  Doherty’s antics would see him thrown out of The Libertines following the release of their debut album Up the Bracket and during the recording of their eponymously titled follow-up. Doherty would later reconcile with his band members, leading to their Top 10 record Anthems for Doomed Youth.

This year has seen the release of The Libertines brand-new album All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade. Featuring the singles "Run Run Run", "Night of the Hunter" and "Shiver", it’s the first record from the rock n’ roll rebels in nine years which was sent straight to the top of the charts by their dedicated fanbase.

"I'm proud of this album.  The amount of work we put into this album, the weeks we spent sat, poring over the lyrics and the music, knocking it together... I'd be disappointed if it doesn't finally get us the recognition I think we deserve - as opposed to being a bit 'culty' " – Peter Doherty

Join The Libertines at Brighton Beach for a phenomenal headline show this summer. The boys will be joined by Madchester greats The Charlatans, evocative Irish folk-punks The Mary Wallopers Musical and indie-pop sensations The Big Moon. The day will be opened by Sunderland’s finest post-punk group The Futureheads and breakthrough band Chappaqua Wrestling.

The Kooks

The Brighton band gets ready to play a massive homecoming show

The Kooks exploded onto the scene in 2006, rising to the fore thanks to their feel-good singles “Naïve”, “She Moves in Her Own Way” and “Ooh La” as featured on their debut album Inside In/Inside Out.

The Brighton band, including Luke Pritchard (vocals, rhythm guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar, synths, bass) and Alexis Nunez (drums), saw Inside In/Inside Out reach quadruple platinum sales. They took home the trophy for Best UK & Ireland Act at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards and were shortlisted for "She Moves in Her Own Way" at the BRIT Awards.

The Kooks platinum-certified follow-up album Konk hit No. 1 in 2008 and they broke the Top 10 with subsequent titles Junk of the Heart and Let’s Go Sunshine.

Catch The Kooks at Brighton Beach this summer. Their homecoming show will be an unmissable event packed full of all the indie anthems you know and love.

"We're very excited about this show - it's been a long time coming. We're on the pebbles, it's gonna be beautiful. I can't believe we've never played the beach before!" – Luke Pritchard

The Kooks will be joined by a stellar cast of indie greats, including energetic London rockers Sea Girls, frenetic post-punks Maxïmo Park and indie-pop singer-songwriter Kate Nash.
