LAURAN HIBBERD – ‘Old Nudes’
Rising slacker star Lauran Hibberd is getting her revenge on a shitty ex with her new track ‘Old Nudes’ which takes an embarresing moment from the past and transforms it into a huge life affirming anthem, striking back at all the crap guys out there.
“‘Old Nudes’ is unfortunately based upon a true story. We’ve all been there right!? The track looks back on the ‘mistake’, and almost mocks it using over confidence. It belittles the receiver, and oozes sarcasm and naivety. I keep writing songs about being young because I’m scared of getting too old to joke about these things”.
“I jumped into a pool of Weezer and found myself confessing my old nude anxieties. The song resents itself in a laughable way, and hints at how it really feels to hate someone you once loved.”
“The video felt appropriate to self record, not only because of isolation but because it encapsulates the setting in how we all get into this mess in the first place. The webcam on my old laptop has seen some sites in its life, but never quite to this extent. There’s something quite special about not giving a damn, and this song and this video cements that idea. I can’t wait to cringe at this in six months time.”

CHARLI XCX – ‘claws’
Not letting the pandemic slow her down, Cambridge born electropop artist CHARLI XCX is continuing her bid for world domination with new single ‘claws’. Produced by Dylan Brady of experimental pairing 100 Gecs, the sugary sweet single is a gushing love song for the Tik Tok generation.
‘claws’ is taken from her forthcoming collaborative album ‘How I’m Feeling Now’, scheduled for release on Friday 15th of May, which documents her time self-isolating and was written and recorded during the lockdown with the assistance of her fans.
“For me, staying positive goes hand-in-hand with being creative, and so that’s why I’ve decided that I’m going to use this isolation time to make a brand-new album from scratch. The nature of this album is gonna be very indicative of the times, just because I’m only gonna be able to use the tools that I have at my fingertips to create all music, all artwork, all videos, everything. In that sense, it’ll be very DIY.”

Never being backwards in coming forwards, Matt Healy has penned an ode to the awkward and the brand-new single from The 1975 asks ‘If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)’ – and it’s an absolutely banger! Incorporating operatic snatches, arena rock and bright new wave vibes, it’s sure to draw out even the timidest wall flower onto the dancefloor.
‘If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)’ is the sixth song to be taken from their next album 'Notes On A Conditional Form' which looks set to be one of the biggest record releases of 2020!
The 1975 have announced a huge outdoor headline show this summer. Get to Finsbury Park in London on Saturday 11th of July to hear their new material plus play all the hits. There, they will be joined by Charlie XCX, Clairo, Pale Waves plus more!

BC CAMPLIGHT – ‘Shortly After Takeoff’
When piano playing songwriter BC Camplight (AKA Brian Christinzio) drops a new record, the world takes notice. Blending indie rock with lo fi pop sensibilities, his cult following has swollen to breakthrough into the mainstream and both fans and critics alike have been eagerly awaiting the release of his new album ‘Shortly After Takeoff’.
Hopes were raised high with previous LPs ‘How To Die In The North’ and ‘Deportation Blues’, and fortunately the third and final part of what Christinzio is calling his Manchester Trilogy certainly does not disappoint. Continuing his aliens account of a Philadelphian’s experience of living in the north west, his idiosyncratic outlook is matched by an equally unique genre defying sound that blurs the lines between synth-pop, folk, country and space rock.
Seamlessly sophisticated, it’s a clever record loaded with witty insights and packed full of ideas without ever becoming too demanding of your attention to prove a point or explore a genre. See BC Camplight when he tours ‘Shortly After Takeoff’ from September onwards.

LUCINDA WILLIAMS – ‘Good Souls Better Angels’
You might think you’ve heard everything that veteran Grammy Award-winning country singer Lucinda Williams has to offer, having been releasing albums since the late 80’s. But at 67, she’s still challenging the powers that by and kicking up a storm as heard on her new record ‘Good Souls Better Angels’ which intertwines blues and folk with psyche rock.
There are strong political messages on Williams latest LP, and she channels the articulate anger of Bob Dylan when penning her protest songs; “I always wanted to be able to write really good topical songs like ‘Masters of War’ or ‘A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall’. And it’s hard. I find it much easier to write an unrequited love song than to write about what’s wrong with the system and how we’re getting screwed.”
William’s is an ardent opponent of the Trump administration and her frustrations with the arrogance and ineptitude can be heard on songs ‘Bad News Blues’ and ‘Man Without A Soul’ which seethe with anger, whilst Williams never loses her cool. When asked about Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, she commented “They just keep fucking up more and more. I don’t think anybody has seen anything like this in their lifetime. … And you’ve got to say something.”
