Bursting with bile and barely hidden contempt, Yard Act compile their first four singles into their Dark Days EP – and it’s a wonderfully bitter listener.
Singer James Smith wears his northern disdain on his sleeve, as he drawls and dismisses the petty outlook and pathetic pastimes of Middle England. Recruiting Ross Orton (MIA, Arctic Monkeys, Working Mens Club) to mix and producer de jour Bill Ryder Jones, it’s a dream team that has created a truly essential EP.

BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD – For the first time
The hype for Black Country, New Road has been growing so large and fast, it has threatened to eclipse the entire band and their output. Thanks to their keen song writing skill, the Brixton based band have avoided collapsing under the weight of the media hyperbole and produced a debut record worthy of the premature praise.
Recorded with legendary producer Andy Savours, famed for his work harnessing the unwieldly noise of My Bloody Valentine, For the first time succeeds in capturing the energy and passion of the live performances, as heard across six brand new jazz inflected tracks and is released by Ninja Tunes – of course.
Innovative and ferocious, For the first time is a defining initial statement and ensures it won’t be the last time we take a stroll along Black Country, New Road.

TV PRIEST – Uppers
Sub Pop signees TV Priest have been generating a dedicated cult following ever since they first congregated as teens. Having once again come together, they now drop their caustic post punk debut Uppers. Careful – it’s so sharp you might cut yourself just by listening to it!
Following a reunion show in November 2019, held in a Hackney Wick warehouse, childhood friends Ed Kelland (drums), Charlie Drinkwater (vocals), Alex Sprogis (guitar) and Nic Bueth (bass/keys) rekindled a youthful energy and enthusiasm which has propelled them back into the studio to record a scathing and sardonic masterpiece, wonderfully ragged with rough edges, completed with elements of krautrock.
